Melania Trump was seen for the first time since her husband, former president Donald Trump, was indicted on 34 counts related to business fraud in New York City. Trump was arraigned on April 4 following an investigation into his alleged role in the payments of hush money to adult film star Stormy Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal in 2016. Trump, the first sitting or former president to face criminal charges, pled not guilty on all 34 counts.

The former first lady, who had not been seen in public since March 30, joined her husband for Easter brunch on April 9 at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, per The Daily Mail, which acquired photos and video from the event. For the occasion, Melania wore a white shirtdress embroidered with flowers.

Rumors the couple was on the outs surfaced after Melania did not join Donald when he turned himself in last week and when she did not appear with him at a rally at Mar-a-Lago, where the former president thanked his children with no mention of his wife. “I never knew something like this could happen in America,” Trump said in the speech, per People. “The only crime that I have committed is to fearlessly defend our nation from those that seek to destroy it.”

Last week the former first lady’s former aide and best friend Stephanie Winston Wolkoff told Page Six that Melania Trump “lives in an ivory tower of denial.”

“I never expected to see her there,” she said, referring to the Mar-a-Lago rally. “Her silence is deliberate, it is her weapon of choice and her protective armor. Of course she knows about Donald’s affairs, she knows everything. Still she isn’t leaving him. This is a transactional marriage, she knew what she was getting into when she married Donald. Her means of survival is to just act like it never happened.”
